• A story that begins at the origin

In 2017, I left Barcelona to move to Peru, in search of waves, nature and new adventures.

My journey in coffee began in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, while working as an adventure guide. On every trip to Machu Picchu, we would stop at a small local coffee shop and roastery. Unbeknownst to me, a passion was born there that would completely change my course.

In 2019, after months of learning in the Valley, I opened my first coffee shop in Lima. Shortly after, we acquired our first roaster—locally made—and founded a small roastery with a young and dedicated team. Our mission was clear: to bring exceptional coffees to the heart of the Barranco neighborhood, where we lived and worked.

In 2020 we were recognized as the best coffee shop in the country by the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa, thanks to a project built with honesty, sustainability and a human vision, together with new generations of producers, baristas and coffee professionals.

During those years I was fortunate enough to receive training at the source, establishing direct links with coffee-growing communities, cooperatives, and specialty coffee exporters. My journey also took me to Europe and the United States, where I continued to deepen my knowledge of the craft and learn from leading figures in the industry.

After almost a decade, I felt it was time to return home and begin a new chapter. That's how Amauta was born: in a small garage in Badalona, with a roaster, a coffee bar, and a clear idea — to share coffees that inspire us, with respect for those who grow them, and with the desire to connect through an authentic and personal experience.

Today, Amauta is also a way to open new horizons, explore new origins, and be part of an emerging movement at home, within a constantly evolving coffee-growing community.

  • Staying true to our roots

We make every decision with its long-term impact in mind. We care that what we do makes sense not only economically, but also socially and environmentally. Every coffee that is part of our story has been carefully selected with meaning and purpose, whether directly from the origin and producer or through our network of small producers who, like us, believe in making a positive impact on their communities and relationships.

We believe in seeking and establishing real relationships, building lasting and human bonds in this world that sometimes feels so fast-paced, with the need to pause to give thanks and face the operations of our project.

  • Sourcing through deep understanding

The lack of transparency in the coffee supply chain makes it difficult to understand who truly benefits and to what extent. This lack of transparency perpetuates inequalities and discourages the production of quality coffee. For us at Amauta, understanding how coffee is produced goes far beyond the final price: it involves knowing the true cost of production, the barriers small producers face, and the daily challenges of cultivating quality coffee at origin.
Amauta's commitment is clear: to go beyond simply buying. We actively engage in deepening our understanding of every stage of the process. We carefully select each farm, each producer, and each supplier or importer that is part of our network. This selection is based not only on cup quality but also on shared values: sustainability, transparency, fair labor practices, and a long-term vision for trade.

  • Small Batch Roasting.

We roast in Badalona using a Giesen W6, with a 6 kg capacity, operating with controlled loads between 3 and 5 kg to optimize heat transfer and the development of the sensory profile. The roaster, originally manufactured in 1999 and recovered in Paris, has been completely refurbished with updated components: drum, high-precision thermocouples, and new-generation burners.

This configuration allows us to work with a robustly built machine equipped with modern measurement and control systems. This ensures accurate readings of critical variables such as grain, air, and drum temperature, guaranteeing consistency, traceability, and replicability in every roast.

These elements are essential to maintaining rigorous control over all our roasting operations.
