Historia

A project driven by the Rumukia Farmers Cooperative at the Kiawamururu washing station, located at an altitude of 1,700 to 1,850 meters above sea level on the fertile reddish volcanic soils characteristic of Kenya’s central highlands. The role of cooperatives in Kenya is to centralize washing stations where local producers can deliver their cherries and have them processed under standards that guarantee traceability and the quality of each lot. In addition, cooperatives play a key role in training and promoting good agricultural practices for present and future generations.

This year we began working with Sebastian, founder of Plot and a passionate admirer of Kenyan coffees, who has spent years exploring new producing areas and discovering unique profiles throughout the country. In 2024 we met him at WOC Copenhagen, where we had the opportunity to taste his carefully curated selection of Kenyan lots, and we were genuinely impressed by the quality and elegance of his cups.

We have roasted this coffee with the goal of highlighting its fresh, juicy character and emphasizing the nuances that make Kenya one of our favorite origins.

About the process

Hand-picked at peak ripeness. Hand-sorted to select only the best cherries. Depulped. Fermented for approximately 24 hours. Floated in channels to separate by density and remove remaining defects. Soaked overnight in fresh water. Dried on raised beds, with continuous turning and hand-sorting of the beans.
